Well that was ugly, wasn't it? You had to know after winning 8 of 9 since the start of the pre-season, the Canucks had to turn in a clunker. A shame it would happen on a PPV night, but I don't think they could have played much worse than they did. I feel fortunate to have not actually seen it, the radio call was bad enough. But after emotional victories over Calgary and a long streak with just 1 OT loss in 9 games, it's actually not a bad thing this happened. A little humility goes a long way, and sometimes you find out more about someone at their worst than at their best. The Vancouver Sun has reported this morning that Taylor Pyatt was not on the ice practicing in Washington with his teammates, as he was nursing a bruised foot suffered in last night's game.
So now it's time for the coaching staff to sit down and examine the damage from this loss. No doubt we will see the boys come charging out of the gates in the Motor City Thursday, those who don't should expect to have a fair amount more time on the bench. Roberto Luongo also needs to quiet the critics (out so soon... sheesh) and turn in a strong performance. The next podcast will be available Thursday, we will look at the pregame for the Canucks/Red Wings game, recap the news and lots more.
On a sad note, we wish to let all the Rangers fans know our hearts are with them over the loss of 19 year old Alexi Cherapanov, who died Monday in a KHL game. It's an ugly one, to be sure, and we know their feelings, having just dealt with this loss ourselves.
